National Bellydance Artist Collaborates with BElly Dance Collective in Townsville

On Sunday 14th August 2022, I had the joy of teaching one of my most precise and passionate bellydance workshop formats — TORSO TECHNIQUE — in Townsville, QLD, hosted by the dynamic and welcoming Belly Dance Collective, led by Cara Griffin.

This workshop was all about control, musicality, and choreographic expression — designed for dancers ready to sharpen their skills and dive deep into the art of the drum solo.

💥 About the Workshop: TORSO TECHNIQUE

This workshop focused on tight isolation technique, clean transitions, and working with dynamic layers in the torso — from sharp locks and pops to fluid undulations. We wrapped it all into one of my original drum solo choreographies, which challenged dancers to hold tension, hit accents, and express with clarity.

Teaching this kind of material in regional Australia is something I deeply value — because talent and passion aren’t limited to the big cities.

🎶 Why Drum Solos?

Drum solos are one of my favourite styles to teach and perform. They demand precision, presence, and power. In this session, I guided students through how to break down complex accents, build body control, and truly own every beat.

The energy in the room was focused and electric — dancers were hungry for the technique, and they showed up with so much commitment.

🤝 Collaboration with Belly Dance Collective

Partnering with Cara Griffin, founder of Belly Dance Collective (formerly Scimitar Moon), was such a natural alignment. Her vision — “Empowering you to dance to your own beat” — completely matches mine. Cara is not only a skilled teacher and leader but a generous and thoughtful host. She’s built a beautiful, welcoming space for dancers in Townsville, and it was an honour to contribute to that.

💬 Feedback from the Day

"I’ve never felt so in control of my body — this workshop blew my mind."
"You explained technique in such a clear, grounded way — I loved learning your choreography."
"Please come back again! We need more workshops like this in Townsville."

🙌 Final Thoughts

This was one of my favourite workshop stops — not just because of the technique and choreography, but because of the warmth and spirit of the dancers who showed up. I left Townsville so inspired.
